Encore Pysanky Workshop
With Father Paul Luniw
March 28, 2021
Program is fully booked
Learn the ancient Ukrainian tradition of Pysanky. Your instructor will be Father Paul Luniw. He is from St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Terryville. He has agreed to lead our two pysanka classes this year.
Father Paul has been practicing this art since his youth and has shared his gift with many people from around the world, including the Holy Father. In 2019 he was able to present an egg to Pope Francis and explain to him the process.
As previously planned, the classes will take place on the two Sundays before Easter (March 21 and 28). Additional details will be polsted soon.
You will go home with a beautiful masterpiece. Please bring a container with you to take your masterpiece home safely.
A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, “to write”, as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax.
The afternoon begins with a hot lunch served in the dining of the Enders House, an early 20th century arts and crafts style mansion and the oldest structure on the island. The workshop begins immediately following lunch.
