Praying with Icons

Icons–often called “Windows into Heaven” are images or depictions of Our Lord, the Virgin Mary and the Saints, along with Feasts of the Church. Icons are visual representations of spiritual realities. Icons are a way of “looking into the Divine” and an aid to prayer and our spiritual life. They are venerated and used as an aid to devotion in the Catholic Byzantine Rite and Eastern Orthodox Churches and are  found in many Western Churches as well these days. This Day of Reflection will explore Icons: what are Icons? What do they mean? What is their significance in  the life of believers? How does one incorporate Icons into one’s prayer life? We will discuss some famous icons of Our Savior and the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Spirituality of Icons.  Icons have been venerated since the 3rd centry in churches, public places and private homes and many stories have been recounted of their healing and protective properties throughout the ages. Come and experience first hand the power of an Icon–sit and look into the Windows of Heaven and be transformed.

We invite you to join us for Holy Mass in the Chapel at 9 AM. Check in will begin at 9:45. Coffee, tea and pastries will be available.   Included in this A hot lunch will be served at 12:30 in the dining hall of the Enders House, an early 20th century arts and crafts style mansion and the oldest structure on the island.
