Wouldn’t you like to be alone with God? Jesus did, too. In the hustle and bustle of the crowds pressing him for cures, miracles, and the Word of God, the evangelists tell us that Jesus frequently withdrew to commune with His Father. At Enders Island, you can find the peace and beauty which we frequently miss in the busyness of our everyday lives.

A private retreat is a time to gain a new perspective on one’s spiritual life and the duties and responsibilities of daily living. It usually takes place in an environment of quiet reflection, without the interruptions of in-room telephones and televisions. Cell phones and anything that would disturb the general atmosphere of quiet are discouraged.

The magnificent Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption and the intimate Fisherman’s Chapel in Enders House are both open 24 hours a day for prayer and meditation. The many gardens, pathways, and shrines on Enders Island also provide opportunities for reflection and appreciation of what the poet Manley Hopkins called “the grandeur of God.” Daily Mass is celebrated in the Chapel at 9 am, and you are invited to schedule the Sacrament of Reconciliation during your retreat. If you wish to conduct your retreat in silence, we can arrange for a silent dining room as well.

Daily sessions with a spiritual director can also be scheduled according to the availability of the particular director. A spiritual director serves as a guide who listens and walks with you on your spiritual journey. Directed Retreats are usually in silence.
