“The Painted Page” is a transformative class that invites students to explore the ancient art of illuminated manuscripts. In this hands-on workshop, participants will focus on the techniques of manuscript illumination, learning to combine vibrant, symbolic illustrations inspired by sacred texts and traditions. While the calligraphic portion of the manuscript will be completed beforehand, students will focus on creating their own illuminated artwork, centered around the theme of Psalm 119:105, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Through expert guidance, you’ll discover the techniques of gilding, painting, and manuscript design, crafting artwork that bridges the spiritual and artistic realms. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist, this class offers an immersive experience in the timeless beauty of illuminated sacred art.
This week-long workshop’s studio time lasts five consecutive days and begins Sunday night at 5:30 pm with a dinner for students and instructors. Dinner is followed by a workshop introduction and conference which ends at 9:00 pm. Hands-on instruction begins early Monday morning. The entire workshop ends Friday at 1 PM.

Rosemary Buczek graduated from Caldwell College, New Jersey, in 1971 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts. She began freelance work from her home and in 1987 formally opened her studio, “The Gilded Quill”.
