Amber Knoor

Amber Knorr

Amber was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. She studied Theology and Catechetics at the Franciscan University of Steubenville before moving to Florence, Italy, to pursue her Master’s in Sacred Art at the Sacred Art School. This figurative art school focused on St. Pope John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” along with training artists in the Catholic tradition of Sacred Art. Amber is the Artist in Residence at Franciscan University, teaching painting, drawing, iconography, and polychrome painting. She hopes that through her art, she may “put people not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ.”

Relief of The Holy Family

July 14 - 19, 2024
Students will be painting a relief of The Holy Family. This course will teach students the techniques of 17th-century Spanish polychrome sculpture. This technique can achieve remarkable realism. Students will learn how to gild and paint provided sculptures using egg tempera painted on top of a previously gilded surface. Students will learn how to gild gold leaf on wood and plaster surfaces using traditional and modern techniques.
