Dan DeLouise

Dan DeLouise began a career as an artist in NYC as a commercial illustrator. A graduate of Syracuse University, and a recipient of several scholarships for outstanding achievements. He’s had the pleasure and good fortune of a successful illustration career, painting professionally for more than 25 years. His illustrations spanned both nationally and internationally. Mr. DeLouise has had the honor of being selected to create original postage stamp designs to commemorate the Coalition, during the Gulf War, and the 100th year anniversary of the International Olympic Committee.
His work has been selected for exhibitions at the New York Society of Illustrators, and published as a contributing artist in issues of Communication Arts magazine. During his years as a commercial artist rendering works for some of the industry’s most reputable companies, including, AMTRAK, ATARI, COCA COLA, HASBRO, MILTON BRADLEY, LUCAS FILMS, REEBOK…, Dan found himself developing painting techniques that allowed him to distinguish his work across a broad range of the illustration market.
In his own words “After a long stint in the commercial/digital art world I realized I was truly missing the tactile part of painting, the “one on one” experience between the artist and the canvas.” He opened his first art gallery in November of 2013 in Rockport MA. “I’m very excited to have several talented artists on board with me and absolutely thrilled by how well each artist’s work compliments the other !.”
Over the past ten years, Dan has been an active member of the Rockport Art Colony, a strong advocate for the arts on Cape Ann, and instrumental in encouraging the long tradition of Plein Air painting throughout New England’s beautiful coastlines. “ There is something about painting out in nature that brings us closer to the hand of God, the “Ultimate Creator”, whose designs we as artists so often strive to imitate. It becomes almost impossible not to contemplate the Heart of God as we begin our own works by observing the vast beauty in the gifts of nature that surround us.”
Dan was recognized as the winner of the 2017 Plein Air CAPA Quick Draw Open Competition, a recipient of the Paul Strisik Memorial Award for excellence in landscape painting by North Shore Art Association, received an Honorable Mention in NY juried show “Colors of the Night”, and artist member of North Shore and Marblehead Art Associations. Recently Dan’s work “For Love of You” was featured in the Benedict XVI Institute’s “Catholic Arts Today” as well as awarded an entry into the prestigious Catholic Art Institute’s of the 2021 “Sacred Art Exhibition”. Mr. DeLouise now resides on Enders Island in Mystic CT, as the artist in residence, newest member of a dedicated team committed to furthering the Faith through the Arts in all that is True, Sacred and Beautiful, both inside and outside of the church.

Plein Air Painting Workshop

September 28, 2024
Starting the day with a demonstration, we will evaluate how to develop a good composition, painting applications, the block-in, all the way to your finished work. Our talented instructor, Dan DeLouise, will then spend the afternoon individually with each student to help us to focus on painting "in and out of the light" quickly, so that we can better learn how to not to fall victim of "chasing the light" around the painting.
