Dr. William F. Murphy

Dr. William F. (Bill) Murphy, Jr. has been Professor of Moral Theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH since 2006 where he has also served as editor of the Josephinum Journal of Theology. He has held previous faculty appointments at institutions including The University of Notre Dame and Ave Maria University, which followed an earlier career in business and information technology with IBM. He has published widely in moral theology with scholarly articles and edited books focusing on some of the most challenging topics in the field. These include the morality of human action, the prohibition of killing, and the relation of the moral order to the political order. In October of 2021, he was the American participant in an international working group of moral theologians sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of Life in commemoration of St. John Paul II’s 1995 encyclical on The Gospel of Life.
